Camera Obscura are back on the road and they will be at the Fritz Club in Berlin tonight. The band have now finalized their schedule for the next few months which includes dates all over Europe and North America and a very special gig at the Glasgow Barrowlands. Full details and ticket links below.

Last month The Dear was back in Glasgow and attended a South By Southwest seminar with the Scottish Arts Council. The Dear met up with Francis MacDonald, the talented manager of Camera Obscura and former BMX Bandit, who talked about the highs and lows of being at the festival in Austin.

Earlier this year Camera Obscura played a Scottish Showcase at South By Southwest (SXSW) at La Zona Rosa on a bill that included Primal Scream, Glasvegas, The Proclaimers, Dananananaykroyd and We Were Promised Jetpacks. Regular readers of Dear Scotland will know that all of these bands have gone on to have incredible years.

Camera Obscura played something like 6 or 7 shows in 4 days at SXSW and they have toured virtually non-stop since. Francis was of the opinion that if a band is completely ready, and if it is done right, SXSW can be a very useful launching pad. It also helps if, like Camera Obscura, you have recorded one of the best albums of the year (‘My Maudlin Career’).

The South by Southwest Music Festival will take place from Wednesday March 17 to Sunday March 21, 2010. The deadline for artist submissions is less than four weeks away, (November 6, 2009).  More information for Scottish bands can be found on the Arts Council website here or you can contact me here if you have any questions about SXSW and Austin. If you can’t make it, I’ll be there to bring you all the latest on the Scottish bands that attend and much much more.
