Edinburgh’s Broken Records will play the Haldern Festival in Germany on Thursday evening and Vic highlights that show out of the many Scottish performances around the World this week. Details below.

Broken Records in Germany

Edinburgh isn’t as prolific as Glasgow at filling the world with new bands and music. That has something to do with the smaller population, the inferior infrastructure of venues and possibly the more middle-class approach to art and pop culture. That’s not to say it’s a wasteland… far from it. I live in Edinburgh and can whole-heartedly stand by the huge amount of world-class acts, groups, DJ’s and clubs that are happening on each night of the week.

Broken Records are one of the many who are proving themselves to a burgeoning audience all over the UK and now abroad. Theirs is a sound that mixes up the emotive, propulsive energy of Arcade Fire, adds the worldy swing of Beirut and combines it with the epic, sincere songwriting of The Waterboys.

Their debut LP is available through the incredible 4AD label, and live they are a potent hybrid of strings, soaring vocals, acoustic instruments and loud guitars. Check them now before they start playing far bigger venues!
