Vic Galloway has said of St Deluxe that their sound is reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, and My Bloody Valentine with near-whispered vocals, fuzzed-out guitars and a stoned haze of production culminating in a very, sweet whole! Trembling Bells will be bringing their mythical, psychedelic folk music to South by Southwest for the first time. The New York Times has already been won over and their unique sound is likely to win many new fans in Austin. Details of their St Davids’ Church showcase below:

The Law will return to Austin for SXSW 2010 having been part of the Scottish contingent in 2008 and at the time of writing, the band have 8 gigs scheduled during the 4 day festival. Full details on these performances are below and will be updated if and when further gigs are added.

Alongside Unicorn Kid and Young Fathers, Hudson Mohawke will show the South by Southwest Festival goers that Scottish music is more than just great indie bands. The in-demand Glaswegian DJ/Producer released his debut album ‘Butter’ in 2009 and is already rumoured to be working with members of Bloc Party and Spank Rock in 2010.

At SXSW last year, We Were Promised Jetpacks had the unenviable task of opening the Scottish Showcase night that featured Camera Obscura, Glasvegas, Primal Scream and more, yet they nearly stole the show. This year, as they finish a headline tour of the US, they’ll be one of the must-see bands of the entire festival.

One of Scotland’s most cherished and most popular singer songwriters will be making their first appearance at South by Southwest in 2010. Colin MacIntyre, formerly the driving force behind the Mull Historical Society, also happens to be one of the nicest men in pop. SXSW show details are below:

As we’ve already mentioned on Dear Scotland, the Scots invented rap music, so it is no surprise that Edinburgh’s Young Fathers are widely tipped to be the next hip hop superstars to emerge from the UK. Young Fathers will be making their first appearance at SXSW in 2010.

Selkirk’s Frightened Rabbit are no strangers to SXSW. The beloved hare band were in Austin in 2007 and 2008 and they will return this year stronger than ever with their new album “The Winter of Mixed Drinks” set for release on March 1.
