  • You Have Been Watching…Aberdeen It’s been a recent theme that many of the films featured on these pages had only the briefest of visits to cinemas before being shelved. This week’s choice didn’t even make it that far. Apparently the BBFC didn’t even think it worth giving it an age certification. But the most baffling aspect of this neglect is that […] Alistair Braidwood

  • The Boyos Are Back In Town Or are they?  “Welsh refs willing to help SFA” says the headline, although at the end of the Sporting Life article it quotes the president of the Welsh Referees Association saying it hasn’t been discussed by his members and they’re not due to meet until Sunday.  And personally, he doesn’t think they’ll want to help. • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Let’s Talk About Trees I guess I must have a bit of a thing for side projects at the moment, but to say that these side projects are a bit of out of the ordinary would be playing it down somewhat. A couple of weeks ago I featured a drummer with a penchant for playing lo-fi pop songs and […] Lloyd Meredith

  • Scotland on Tour with Vic Galloway: Trembling Bells in Utrecht As Matthew so sweetly wrote the other day, Vic will be passing on his Radio 1 show to Ally McCrae soon, but he will continue to bring us the best in new music each week on Radio Scotland and his pick of Scottish bands on tour here on Dear Scotland. This week – Trembling Bells. Vic Galloway

  • You Have Been Watching…Complicity For all his reasonable and affable public persona, the author Iain Banks is an angry man. At least he can be. Most of his mainstream novels have sections where this anger appears on the page and Banks lets rip at numerous targets through his characters. This anger can cover religion (The Crow Road and Whit), […] Alistair Braidwood

  • State of the SPL – Part Two Last week I reviewed the state of the bottom half of the SPL – this week, let’s look up top. Dundee United “Dundee United will do well to retain third place,” I had boldly asserted back in August, and for once I appear to have been talking sense.  As a Rangers fan, Tannadice was a […] Billy Williamson

  • Watch Scotland v Faroe Islands Live with Expat Surfer Scotland will play the Faroe Islands later today in a friendly match at Pittodrie. The game will be streaming live on Sky Player to viewers in the UK, but if you live abroad and connect using Expat Surfer, you won’t need to search out dodgy internet sites to see the match. • Scotland on Tour with Vic Galloway: Idlewild in USA – CANCELLED We prepared this article a few days ago but news has now reached us that Idlewild’s long awaited return to the US has been cancelled as Rod Jones has broken his collarbone. However, I thought we should still give a nod to one of Scotland’s best bands and hope they’ll be back in America soon. Vic Galloway
