  • Scottish Bands at SXSW 2011 – 32 Gigs Scheduled So Far Two weeks to go and more details have surfaced about the Scottish shows at South by Southwest 2011. Sadly it appears that Django Django may have dropped out but I’ve put together a nice little table featuring all the gigs that are currently scheduled. Pete Reid

  • Toad Session: Rob St. John We actually recorded this Toad Session in the Queen Charlotte Rooms in Leith before the Song, by Toad Christmas Party back in December.  Partly this was because it seemed like a fun thing to do, and partly because swapping our traditional and rather overpowering turquoise backdrop for their Christmas lights and tinsel. Also, we had […] Matthew Young

  • You Have Been Watching (Glasgow Film Festival Special)…Island One of the many hidden gems at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival turned out to be Island, a film based on Jane Rogers’ novel of the same name, and directed by Brek Taylor and Elizabeth Mitchell. I had no idea of what I was about to see bar the brief blurb on the website. Set almost entirely on […] Alistair Braidwood

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – PAWS I know that I am sucker for indie-folk bands, but I do still love my rock, in fact the scuzzier the better. One such band that have been exciting me a lot over the past six months are Glasgow three-piece PAWS. It was the fuzzed up pop joy of “Violent Vicky Violet” that first brought […] Lloyd Meredith

  • Kid Canaveral – ‘You Only Went Out to Get Drunk Last Night’ video I have an unusually healthy supply of good videos at the moment, so I thought I might pass on three of my favourites, none of which bear much relation to one another, but all of which are cool in different ways. First up is Kid Canaveral’s brilliant new animated video for You Only Went Out […] Matthew Young

  • Indelible Ink: Special Edition ‘Stuart Adamson: In A Big Country’ It’s perhaps difficult to sufficiently express just how popular Big Country were for a few years in the mid-1980s. Albums went straight to number 1, there were regular Top of the Pops appearances, they were lauded in music publications from pop paper Smash Hits to the weekly NME and Melody Maker and were also well-liked and respected by many […] Alistair Braidwood

  • The Yellow Cowdenbeath The Scottish press have reported that the national team are to play in a ‘glamour friendly’ against Brazil at the end of March.  Looking for confirmation, I checked the Brazilian press and found no mention of any ‘glamour friendly’, though they did confirm that Brazil were playing Scotland at the end of March. The game […] Billy Williamson
