Something for everyone this week with a very eclectic list of Scots bands with gigs abroad over the next 7 days. Belle and Sebastian, Runrig, Paolo Nutini, Mungo’s Hi Fi and The Cinematics are all on tour but Vic has more on The Phantom Band who will hit the Electric Elephant Festival in Petrcane:

The Phantom Band at the Electric Elephant Festival in Petrcane
by Vic Galloway

With a growing fanbase all over the UK and now in Europe, thanks to various favourable reviews and festival appearances, the mighty Phantom Band strap on their guitars, moogs and percussive shrapnel to confuse and confound more audiences… in a good way!

I absolutely loved ‘Checkmate Savage’, their debut LP for Chemikal Underground Records, and cannot wait for the follow-up which is currently being finished off. I’m sure it will feature many of their krautrock, prog, indie and folk influences but push forward and sideways into musical places most bands are scared to tread.

If you’ve never experienced their live show, you’re in for a treat as they lay down a strangely danceable yet bleak voodoo stomp wherever they decide to cut some action… Brilliant band – go and see them I urge you!

Also on tour this week: The Cinematics, Paolo Nutini, Belle and Sebastian, Mungo’s Hi Fi, The Waterboys,  Snow Patrol, Simple Minds and Runrig.
