Camera Obscura and Frightened Rabbit will both feature at the Coachella Festival in California this weekend alongside the likes of Gorillaz, Jay-Z and Thom Yorke. Radio 1’s Vic Galloway tells us why that’s his Scottish gig of the week alongside the only listing of every Scottish band on tour this week outside the UK.

Coachella is now legenday in the festival calendar. Taking place on some Californian Polo fields(!) and reputedly sun-baked for fans and bands alike, this is now a massively respected event with a very high calibre of acts across indie, rock, hip-hop and electronica. They like their heritage acts too, hence a few classic bands making it onto the bill each year.

In 2010, they’ve wisely added two of Scotland’s finest exports. Both Frightened Rabbit and Camera Obscura are going down great guns in the USA, playing to larger and larger crowds and attracing critical plaudits left, right and centre across the print media, blogs and radio. As you know, if you listen to my weekly radio shows, I like both bands and am delighted to see them and Scottish music as a whole take a real foothold in the States.

If you’re sunning yourself at this festival (and I sincerely wish I was), take time to watch these guys and enjoy. You wont just be ‘supporting the team’ but hearing some genuinely great music into the bargain!

Also on tour this week: Twin Atlantic, Colin Hay, Unwinding Hours, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Hudson Mohawke.
