Codeine Velvet Club in Japan

by Vic Galloway

Following their successful visit to Austin, Texas and the SXSW festival, the Fratellis’ offshoot hit the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan for what may well be their last ever show.

As always, expect glamorous, addictive pop tunes fronted by men in suave suits and a lovely lady in a burlesque dress. Jon Lawler and Lou Hickey swap vocal melodies and cheeky glances, as they tear through tracks from their debut LP and a few well-placed cover versions such as ‘I am the Resurrection’ by Stone Roses… and yes, it does actually work!

It has a lovely retro vibe, and Jon’s ear for an insanely catchy melody is fully on show. Well worth checking out if you can.

Also on tour this week The Cinematics, Average White Band, Belle and Sebastian, The Waterboys, Frightened Rabbit,  Simple Minds, Trembling Bells, and Fran Healy (solo).
