Regular followers of Dear Scotland will already know a lot about Meursault through Matthew Young‘s articles. The band are a major part of the Edinburgh music scene and Matthew’s Song by Toad Record Label and their new album is released next month. This week they embark on their first European tour. Vic has the details.

Meursault in France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands

by Vic Galloway

Brandishing a new LP in hand, with help from the consistently excellent ‘Song, by Toad‘ blog, podcast and label, Neil Pennycook and his band of merry men (I think there’s 6 of them in the band just now, but don’t quote me on that, as it changes each time I see them) take to the road with their unique brand of heartfelt, epic songwriting and haywire electronic/acoustic crossover backing-instrumentation.

Neil’s booming, anthemic voice is central to the music at all times with laptops, kaos pads, synths, banjos, acoustic guitars and ukuleles all vying for your attention in a truly eclectic and original mix of sound and texture. I love this band and wish them further continued success.

They’re doing a Maida Vale session for Radio 1 soon, at my request, and have guested on Radio Scotland and 6Music shows of mine in the past. I’ve heard that bigger labels are starting to show interest, so get a look at them now before they blow up big!

Also on tour this week: The Cinematics, Twin Atlantic, Camera Obscura, Meursault, Colin Hay, Errors, The Proclaimers, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Frightened Rabbit, Hudson Mohawke, Sharleen Spiteri, Calvin Harris and Trembling Bells.
