Edinburgh trio Young Fathers are back in Germany this weekend at the On3 Radio Festival in Munich. Radio 1’s Vic Galloway tells us about hip-hop in Scotland and why Young Fathers are his pick of all the Scottish bands playing around the world this week. Full details of all the shows with ticket information below:

Young Fathers

Scotland and Hip-Hop don’t seem to be obvious bed-fellows, but I’d like to think this will change in the near future. As a lover of all kinds of music across all genres, I’ve been ranting about Scottish rap for years now. Some laugh, some cry… but some genuinely get it!

Until now, it’s probably safe to say that there hasn’t been an obvious star or crew to lead the charge and open the door for others. Big-up to Profisee, Eastborn, Loki, Butterscotch, Respek BA and The Freestyle Master – all of whom get busy on the microphone and need some serious props for their skills and lyrics. Check them out when you can and see why I reckon they should all be stars.

However a certain Edinburgh trio, Young Fathers seem to have the lyrics, the production, the dance-moves and ‘the look’ to burst through and put the Urban scene from north of the border on the map. Like the Beastie Boys but from Auld Reekie(!), they blow up the spot with their brand of psychedelic, electro, party Hip-Hop.

I’ve put them on at gigs, booked them live in session and recommended them to other Radio 1 DJ’s over the last year, and the response has been awesome! They’ve hooked up with dance gurus Simian Mobile Disco and will hopefully drop their killer debut LP in 2010. If there’s any justice, they’re gonna be massive very, very soon!
