You Have Been Watching… Red Road
I’ve been having a few conversations recently about how Scotland’s current cultural reliance on grim and gritty urban (and increasingly rural) fiction has reached the point of overkill. That particular alcoholic and violent shark has been well and truly jumped. If Scotland’s cultural palette becomes brighter as well as broader then that is surely a positive thing, […]

My Hero
If anyone ever asked me who my hero is, I would answer: Tank Man. He is the anonymous person who stood in front of a column of Chinese Army tanks on Beijing’s Chang’an Avenue on June 5, 1989 – the morning after the massacre of students in Tiananmen Square. No-one knows his real name.

Detour Scotland: SXSW Video Diary Part 3
Wednesday night saw the Scottish Showcase, put together by our partners Creative Scotland; and it was triumphant. With an incredible lineup of The Twilight Sad, Admiral Fallow, Twin Atlantic, Errors, Kid Canaveral and Withered Hand, a packed out Maggie Mae’s at the heart of Sixth Street in Austin saw an unforgettable night of Scottish music.

Song, By Toad: SXSW Video Diary Part 1
This pretty much speaks for itself, I think. The hundredth best venue in Austin would probably be by far the best venue in Edinburgh, so it is partly awesome fun and partly making me green with envy!

Detour Scotland: SXSW Video Diary Part 1 & 2
The Detour Scotland crew, including Ally McCrae and David Weaver, have been here in Austin all week filming the Scottish bands, getting ridiculous tattoos and generally having their minds blown by the insanity that is South by Southwest. These are their video diaries:
