State of the SPL – Part Two
Last week I reviewed the state of the bottom half of the SPL – this week, let’s look up top. Dundee United “Dundee United will do well to retain third place,” I had boldly asserted back in August, and for once I appear to have been talking sense. As a Rangers fan, Tannadice was a […]

A Letter To Hugh Dallas
Dear Shuggie, Ah, Shuggie. What a life, eh? Who’d be a referee. (Actually, I’ll get to that later.) “The Tannadice Coverup” is what they’re calling it in the papers, though I’m sure Neil Lennon would have it as “The Tannadice Conspiracy”. I think “The Tannadice Cockup” would be more appropriate.

Chinese Numerology As Applied to the SPL’s “Radical Changes”
Once again the SPL are meeting to consider a brand new idea that by changing the number of teams in the league, it will dramatically increase the quality of Scottish football. About six months ago they had a similar meeting. Here is what Billy had to say about it then:

It’s Magic, You Know – Rangers And Scotland Don’t Go
There’s a famous scene from the 1976 movie, “Network”, in which a television newscaster loses his marbles and performs an impassioned rant live on broadcast news, which ends with him urging his viewers to stick their heads out the window and yell (see below). The point he was making was to show everyone they were […]

One senior figure in Scottish sport, who would only be quoted off-the-record, stated: “There is no place for that type of behaviour in Scotland’s elite […]

The Glorious Twelve
Today is the Glorious Twelfth – the beginning of the shooting season for red grouse. There’s no equivalent name for the start of the Scottish football calendar – Sensational Saturday? – but this weekend sees the twelve powers of the Scottish Premier League re-align for another smashing season of soccer. Read on for a dozen […]

Size Matters
I often tell people one of the benefits of being a Rangers fan is that you get two occasions every week to be happy: Rangers winning and Celtic losing. Celtic’s defeat to Sporting Braga in the first round of the Champions League qualifier gave Rangers fans even further satisfaction – not only did Celtic lose […]

Going on Holiday? Pack Your Replica Shirt
Back in the mid-90s, before Mrs Williamson was a snowboarder, we’d often spend the Martin Luther King long weekend (mid-January) flying down to Miami and hanging out in South Beach. It was a fine break from the freezing New York winters and allowed me to transform my pasty white skin into a marginally less pasty […]
