  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Dupec It’s time for some ROCK! Dupec are an Edinburgh three piece rock outfit that I first came across after the We Were Promised Jetpacks name checked them in several interviews. Being the curious/nosey bugger that I am, I did a little digging and soon found myself hooked by their loud catchy tunes.

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Washington Irving I’m not sure if it’s just my perception, but there seems to be a lot amazing indie-folk bands coming out of Scotland at the moment. The latest band to add to this list, are Glasgow based six piece, Washington Irving. Taking their name from one of my all time favourite books, ‘Catch 22′, they were […]

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – The Lava Experiments Thankfully, rather than my usual rambling attempts to describe the band I feature each week, I can direct you to a previous article I wrote on Glasgow’s The Lava Experiments. The second in their series of ‘Blackbody’ EP’s was a cracking wee voyage into the world of psychedelia, so I must admit I was pretty […]

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Eagleowl Another week, and once again you find a Weegie raving about an Edinburgh band, this time it’s Edinburgh lo-fi outfit Eagleowl. For me personally I think it’s amazing what a difference music blogs have made in bringing Scottish music together.

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Tokyo Knife Attack It was the great people of the Glasgow Podcart that first introduced me to the synthpop sounds of Tokyo Knife Attack, or Craig Bell as he’s known to real life people, at the Podcart Christmas party last year. My memories of that evening are of hearing a synth version of Arcade Fire’s ‘Tunnels’ and then […]

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Meursault For the majority of the folk that visit this site, Meursault will be a band with whom you are very familiar. If you haven’t come across the Edinburgh ‘folktronica’ outfit then you are in for a bit of a treat. Their debut album, ‘Pissing On Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues’ was one my personal favoiurites in 2009 […]

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – French Wives I know I should probably start by giving a synopsis about the band, but that just isn’t my style. With the French Wives, it’s even more difficult as I find myself in a situation where I could be seen to be a bit ‘fan boy’ about them. At 31, this isn’t the best of looks.

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – Fear The Fives This is the 500th article on Dear Scotland and somewhat appropriately, Peenko brings us an interview with a new Glasgow band by the name of ‘Fear the Fives’. Massive thanks to Peenko, Billy, Vic, Matthew, Colin, Kenny, Alistair, Saba, Alec, Shiner and Swatpaz and everyone else who has contributed in the last year.

  • Peenko’s Scots Way-Hay! – The Kays Lavelle Week fourteen and it’s time for Edinburgh six piece, The Kays Lavelle. Having initially known lead singer Euan as a fellow blogger, I was a wee bit apprehensive as to what I might make of his music. I needn’t have worried as the ‘Kays debut album, ‘Be Still This Gentle Morning’, is an absolute corker.
