The South by Southwest madness has already started here in Austin with the Film and Interactive festivals and SXSW Music officially starts on Wednesday. From various sources I have compiled a list of 59 Scottish gigs over the next few days. My head is already spinning.
The 2012 SXSW Music Festival kicks off next week with 12 Scottish bands set to invade Austin. Unfortunately the weather forecast suggests that they may be bringing the Scottish weather with them. This weeks listings include international dates from Twin Atlantic, Primal Scream, The Vaselines and Hudson Mohawke, while Uncle Vic has more on Glasgow’s Three Blind Wolves who finish their Dutch tour with gigs in Nijmegen, Groningen, Amsterdam and Zwolle.
As Vic has been taking a well earned break after hosting Edinburgh’s Hogmanay party with Biffy Clyro, Dear Scotland has been updating the Scotland on Tour database with almost 300 new international shows from Scottish artists as diverse as Primal Scream, Isobel Campbell, Mogwai, Eddi Reader and Nazareth. This week Glasgow’s The Vaselines will be heading up the West Coast of North America with a Friday night show in Seattle likely to be one of the highlights. Also on tour this week in the US are Belle and Sebastian, Isobel Campbell, and Frightened Rabbit who hit Austin on Wednesday. Full listings below:
This will be a week to remember for the Frightened Rabbit. Tonight the Frabbits are in Melbourne and tomorrow the band will play the Factory Theatre in Sydney. Then on Sunday they’ll play Lollapalooza in Chicago with Arcade Fire and Lady Gaga. Vic has more on Frightened Rabbit and all this week’s Scottish gigs abroad.

Festival season is in full swing in Europe and next weekend Glaswegian band Mungo’s Hi Fi will join reggae legends like Toots & the Maytals at the Real Beat Reggae Festival in Česká Lípa. Vic has more on Mungo’s Hi Fi along with information on all the Scottish bands on tour this week.
