Mogwai were due to return to NYC this week with label mates Errors for two shows at Webster Hall, however news reached us late today that due to “visa issues”, the first 5 gigs of the tour have been postponed. More here. The first date of the tour should be in Montreal next week:
Wednesday night saw the Scottish Showcase, put together by our partners Creative Scotland; and it was triumphant. With an incredible lineup of The Twilight Sad, Admiral Fallow, Twin Atlantic, Errors, Kid Canaveral and Withered Hand, a packed out Maggie Mae’s at the heart of Sixth Street in Austin saw an unforgettable night of Scottish music.
The Detour Scotland crew, including Ally McCrae and David Weaver, have been here in Austin all week filming the Scottish bands, getting ridiculous tattoos and generally having their minds blown by the insanity that is South by Southwest. These are their video diaries:
The biggest week of the year for Scottish music outside the UK starts here. Right now, there are 15 Scottish bands on their way to Austin, including Withered Hand*. The final list of all the Scottish gigs is below with a full preview from Uncle Vic.
One week to go and the [un]official SXSW free party list is out. Reading this list will give you a headache, such is the amount of bands, free booze and bbq listed. But that’s good practice if you plan to attend, because that’s how your head will feel all week.
Two weeks to go and more details have surfaced about the Scottish shows at South by Southwest 2011. Sadly it appears that Django Django may have dropped out but I’ve put together a nice little table featuring all the gigs that are currently scheduled.
Four weeks to go and SXSW have released the details of the official showcases for the Scottish bands. I had the chance to speak with a few people over the past week to get the inside scoop on what Scottish bands will be heading to Austin next month, and it looks like there will be a record 17 bands here for SXSW. The full list is below:
Last week the official SXSW website was updated with hundreds more bands added but with a couple of Scottish names removed. However, as we stand there are a record 19 20 Scottish artists on the 2011 schedule. Full details below.
