I recently received a copy of Minstrels Poets and Vagabonds, the history of rock music in Glasgow from the sixties up to the present day. Written by promoter and DJ Robert Fields the book is a fascinating history of a musical genre that is at best ignored, at worst ridiculed.
Glaswegian sextet The Phantom Band will join Vic Galloway in Rennes next weekend for the Trans Musicales Festival. Dear Scotland spoke with the band’s keyboard player Andy Wake this week who revealed the band’s healthy obsession with outdoor swimming as well as their plans for SXSW 2010.

Tonight the Pictish Trail are in Koln Germany and Vic highlights that gig along with their other shows in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway as his pick of all the Scottish gigs abroad this week.
