We prepared this article a few days ago but news has now reached us that Idlewild’s long awaited return to the US has been cancelled as Rod Jones has broken his collarbone. However, I thought we should still give a nod to one of Scotland’s best bands and hope they’ll be back in America soon.
Vic was in Austin with me this past weekend for the brilliant Fun Fun Fun Festival which is why this article is being published slightly later than usual. Anyway, Vic’s on his way back to sunny Scotland now but before he left he picked Teenage Fanclub in Germany as his international gig of the week.
Following the recent double bill of Belle and Sebastian with Teenage Fanclub in New York, Scottish music fans in America are in for another treat this week as Frightened Rabbit and The Phantom Band head to DC, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Chicago. Vic has more on two of Scotland’s best new bands.
As we mentioned last week, The Phantom Band just played their first ever US shows at the CMJ Festival in New York and they’ll now head down to Atlanta to join Frightened Rabbit on tour. Those dates are below and Vic has more on Sparrow and the Workshop in Italy:
This week Glasgow’s The Vaselines will be heading up the West Coast of North America with a Friday night show in Seattle likely to be one of the highlights. Also on tour this week in the US are Belle and Sebastian, Isobel Campbell, and Frightened Rabbit who hit Austin on Wednesday. Full listings below:
Having played one of the shows of the year last week in Brooklyn with Teenage Fanclub, Belle and Sebastian head to LA and then onto Mexico where they will play three gigs with The Vaselines. Radio 1′s Vic Galloway has more on that and a listing of all the other Scottish gigs abroad this week.

Bands on tour this week include Hey Enemy, Teenage Fanclub and The Cinematics but Vic has more on Glasgow’s Sparrow and the Workshop who will join Biffy Clyro, The View, and Broken Records in Ireland for Arthur’s Day.
