If you want to be free to do what you want to do, to get loaded and to have a good time this Hogmanay then there is only one place in the world to be – Edinburgh. Once again Vic Galloway will be MC’ing the party, and he has more on the musical line-up featuring Sons & Daughters, Kassidy and Primal Scream.

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay – Concert in the Gardens and Street Party

by Vic Galloway

Seen as one of the most, if not THE most, prestigious and iconic New Year celebrations in the world, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay reputation is held in very high regard, and their 2012 party looks pretty impressive. Primal Scream will lead the charge with another hypnotic journey through the ground-breaking and genre-defying tour-de-force that is ‘Screamadelica’. Seen as a dance-rock crossover masterpiece, it’s also a damn good party record and perfect for grooving the night away in a heaving, ecstatic crowd.

Also on the bill are current punk-pop, indie darlings The Vaccines, Hip-Hop lover and super producer Mark Ronson (in a DJ capacity) and local bands such as Sons & Daughters and Kassidy, in amongst more traditional Celtic and Ceilidh flavours designed to get you to break a sweat and burn off the whisky!

Having MC-ed for the last 2 years, introducing bands such as Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Charlatans, Billy Bragg and The Enemy on various stages, I’m delighted to be involved again this year. I’m hosting the West End Stage with indie-dance, party-starters Friendly Fires headlining and eccentric, Cumbrian popsters Wild Beasts in support. More bands are being added to the bill and I reckon it might just be one of the best years yet.

Not only is this one of the greatest fiestas on earth with around 80,000 people attending, but with the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and a magnificent fireworks display, I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be. When I look out from the stage on a packed Princes Street and watch thousands of people all dancing and enjoying themselves, the thrill is second to none!

If you’re in Edinburgh or taking the journey there, grab yourself a ticket and come and have a wee dram with us. So long as I count down to the bells at midnight and remember the words to ‘Auld Lang Syne’, we’ll all be fine! But wherever you are and whatever you’re doing – be with your loved ones, enjoy yourself and take care… Have a Happy Hogmanay!
