Edwyn Collins in Germany, Austria and Turkey
by Vic Galloway

It’s been well documented that Scottish indie legend, Edwyn Collins suffered from a horrific brain haemorrhage and has made an incredible, lazarus-like recovery. It’s testament to such will, determination and raw talent that not only is he recovering, but making some of the best music of his career.

‘Losing Sleep’ is the current album made post-illness and has some A-list indie collaborations thereon from Johnny Marr, Franz Ferdinand, The Drums, The Magic Numbers & The Cribs. The album is up-tempo, forceful, full of energy and ideas. So good in fact, I put it in my Top 75 albums of 2010. Edwyn’s been taking to the stage again too, and the gigs are celebratory, joyful affairs with songs from his Orange Juice years and excellent solo back catalogue.

His voice is still very much intact, and the material sounds as fresh as ever. If you’re in Germany, Austria or Turkey, try to get along and see a Scottish rock’n’roll campaigner and a true inspiration.

Also on tour this week: The Phantom Band, Broken Records, Biffy Clyro, Eddi Reader, Fran Healy and KT Tunstall.
