The Detour Scotland crew, including Ally McCrae and David Weaver, have been here in Austin all week filming the Scottish bands, getting ridiculous tattoos and generally having their minds blown by the insanity that is South by Southwest. These are their video diaries:

Later today the Scottish afternoon showcase will take place at the British Music Embassy (Latitude 30, 512 San Jacinto), featuring Dam Mantle, Unicorn Kid, Rachel Sermanni, King Creosote and Popup. For a full line up of all the shows see here.

The Detour team are planning a ‘Goodfellas’ style steadicam shot down 6th Street incorporating acoustic performances by some of these artists and more of the amazing Scottish musicians that are currently in Austin. We should be able to post footage of that tomorrow, but if you are in Austin and you want to help out, meet us at Latitude 30 at 2pm. Here are their videos so far:

Detour Scotland at SXSW 2011 – Parts 1 & 2

Our first day of the festival proper, and it was quite the day. Pure sensory overload, thousands of incredible people, more music than we thought could exist – then we ended the night with the fantastic Scottish showcase. Featuring The Twilight Sad, Admiral Fallow, Twin Atlantic, Errors, Kid Canaveral and Withered Hand, we’ll be releasing a blow-by-blow account of that evening very soon, with our partners Creative Scotland.

First though, here’s what we did during the day – a continuation of trying to let people at home experience the madness of SXSW, and how the Scottish artists spend their days and nights working their bums off.
