One week to go and the [un]official SXSW free party list is out. Reading this list will give you a headache, such is the amount of bands, free booze and bbq listed. But that’s good practice if you plan to attend, because that’s how your head will feel all week.

The SXSW free party list can be downloaded HERE as a pdf. It has been updated as of March 4, 2011, but there may well be a new updated list by next Tuesday.

Also below is the updated Dear Scotland Scottish list which now includes details of the official Scottish day party on Friday March 18 at the UK Embassy (aka Latitude 30). This list has added about a dozen new shows since last week, taking the total number of Scottish gigs to 42. Vic Galloway will be hosting both the official Scottish showcase and the day party.

Sad news from Edinburgh is that Withered Hand appears to have been denied a visa. A worthy campaign has been started on twitter (#witheredhandforsxsw) and you can get the latest from the man himself at twitter.com/witheredhand to see if anything changes in the next few days.

Thanks to the bands and bloggers who have been in touch with comments. Again, there should be some more gigs announced by next week so if you are in one of these bands and I’m missing something then email me or tweet. Next Tuesday should be the final SXSW preview post.

Also, a lot of the bands have gigs in New York and LA that have now been added to the Scotland on Tour page.

    I think there is an age restriction on the Scottish day party. I know it takes place in a bar. I’ll try and find out but either way, there is a big window that looks into the venue so if you wanted to put your wean on your shoulders, they’d get a good view.

  4. Latest news is that Dam Mantle and Withered Hand are still experiencing visa issues, although Withered Hand has at least now received initial approval.
    Also, an additional Bronto Skylift gig (thanks Charlie) and an Edwyn Collins gig (thanks Gary) have been added.

  5. Howdy Peej. Any idea whether they’ll be letting people into the 3/16 showcase at Maggie Mae’s without a badge/wristband?

  6. C&B – If you get there early enough I’m sure you’ll be able to pay $15-$20 cash to get into the venue for the night. Last year it was one-in/one out though by about 10pm.

  7. That’s good news. Should be no worries about the time. I’m dying to see Withered Hand, so I’ll need to be there early.
