Glasvegas in Denmark
by Vic Galloway
With the huge weight of expectation lumped upon their shoulders after the success of the debut album, James Allan and cohorts return to the fray with an extremely ambitious sophomore effort. ‘Euphoric///Heartbreak\\\’ takes it up a notch or two with an even larger stadium rock influence combined with state of the art production courtesy of influential knob-twiddler ‘Flood’. The emotive vocals are there, and the guitars are turned up, but they’ve also added more synthesized sounds and beats textures into the mix. It’s going to appeal to existing fans, but quite possibly help them up another rung of the rock’n'roll fame ladder too.
They’ve not been shy about hitting the road either. Since January they’ve been busy, playing a string of intimate venues across Scotland and further afield across the UK more recently. They now take to the air, hit some other parts of the globe and start their continual quest for World domination. Take this chance to catch them live with their new drummer Jonna Lofgren, a set of new songs and James Allan taking to the stage, resplendent in white rather than trademark black… although the shades are still there, of course!
I had them in session and they sounded great - full of good humour and laughter. This is a band who divide opinion at home and abroad, but they certainly have a hunger and desire to reach bigger and bigger audiences. The new songs, 2 of which you can download now, are epic in size and stature and it looks like the band’s profile is set to do the same. Next stop Copenhagen… get involved!
Also on tour this week: The Phantom Band, Broken Records, Mogwai, Fran Healy, Edwyn Collins and Belle and Sebastianl.
