Broken Records in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Edinburgh indie-folk troubadours Broken Records take to the road again in support of their excellent second LP for the legendary 4AD label, ‘Let me come home’. Both their album releases are superb and their arsenal of original songs and occasional covers (they’ve done songs by Velvet Underground and Mercury Rev for me live in session) has swelled to make them a world-class act.

Probably even better as a live act than in the studio, their marry all their bombast and bluster with an onstage intimacy and delicacy within the arrangements. Frontman Jamie Sutherland’s falsetto leads the way, with guitar, bass, drums, piano, accordion and strings backing up his anthemic, emotive and world-weary voice.

For beginners and new-comers, imagine elements of The Waterboys, Arcade Fire, Beirut, Calexico and REM all colliding… in Scotland!! They get the head thinking and the feet jiggin in equal measure too – not an easy thing to do! See them as they head over to the USA to tour soon, but catch them in Europe this week.
