After a year writing about all the great Scottish acts playing around the world, Vic is off to Gothenburg at the weekend to perform a DJ set at the Ritz and quite rightly it’s the gig of the week. More details below along with info on every other Scottish show abroad this week.
Vic Galloway DJ Set in Gothenburg
by Vic Galloway
As well as playing and plugging the recorded output of Scottish bands across the planet, I do make music and DJ myself too. Occasionally you need to blow your own trumpet! Come on, give me a break…
Craig Jamieson runs the fabulous ‘Modern Lovers’ night in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Swedish city every month and is planning to open a monthly residency in London too. As a man possessed and a serious music lover, he runs an indie/electronica night called ‘Wire’ in Edinburgh, concentrating on new bands and sounds, which I also guest at. Ostensibly though, ‘Modern Lovers’ is a retro night. With a love of all things Beat, Garage, Soul, Ska, Mod, Rock’n’Roll and R’n’B from 1950’s and 60’s it’s an excuse to dance to the greatest records of all time… or some of them!
You well know that I’m a new music afficionado on BBC Radio every week but I also love to spin classics too, especially to an audience geared up for it. So, if you’re in or around Gothenburg this weekend why not pop along to the Ritz on Bastionplatsen and check out a guest DJ slot from yours truly spinning the ‘platters that matter’ – cut some rug and shake some action!
Also on tour this week: Average White Band, Paolo Nutini, The Twilight Sad, Hudson Mohawke, Camera Obscura, Snow Patrol, Simple Minds, Runrig, Calvin Harris, and Sparrow and the Workshop.
