Vic is back on BBC Radio Scotland tonight with Rudi Zygadlo in session and a few new tunes that he picked up in Austin. For Scotland on Tour this week, Vic likes The Unwinding Hours in Germany and Switzerland as his pick of all the Scottish bands touring outside the UK.

The Unwinding Hours in Europe

Though not commercially successful, Aereogramme were a much loved band across the UK and especially in Europe. Various LP’s, EP’s, singles and a box-set document their career and set a legacy for those of you who are interested. And to those of you not so interested, I sincerely urge you to get so, you will find a few little gems in there.

Anyway, from the ashes of Aereogramme comes another Glasgow-based band made up of 2 ex-members of the ‘gramme. Main songwriter and vocalist Craig B alongside producer and instrumentalist Iain Cook call themselves The Unwinding Hours and have assembled a full band to back them. They have quietly released their debut LP on the faithful Chemikal Underground label, and began to spread the word.

Although Aereogramme split after relentless, unsuccessful touring and slog, TUH have decided to simply go where the audience most want them. Right now, that’s Germany, Austria and Switzerland. However, judging by the fragile, glacial and yet epic indie-rock of the debut LP; and their note-perfect, passionate home-grown live shows to date, that wont be the case for long.

If you’re reading this in the vicinity of any of those 3 countries mentioned, and want a live experience from a pure and heartfelt band with anthemic, personal songs – take my and many other critics’ advice and check them out.

Also on tour this week: The Cinematics, Alex Smoke, Biffy Clyro, Twin Atlantic, Fangs, Eddi Reader, Shitdisco, Camera Obscura and The Average White Band.
