As he mentioned in our interview on Friday, The Agitator will be in France this week. Today, Vic Galloway tells us what he thinks about The Agitator alongside the only listing of every Scottish gig outside the UK this week.

The Agitator in France

Derek Meins is The Agitator. He’s made music in the Berwick-Upon-Tweed based band Eastern Lane and under his own name, but now goes under this new monicker.

Weirdly enough, I first saw him in this guise at the ‘Trans Musicales’ festival in Rennes, Brittany at the tail end of 2009. I thought he was outstanding. He took to the stage with only a drummer for accompaniment, and proceeded to blow the roof off the venue in front of around 700 people! Imagine politically-empowered doo-wop, hip-hop, acappella punk with some drum’n’bass and dubstep rhythms thrown in for good measure.

Quite a unique character with a very distinct sound combining only vocals and beats. He’s certainly someone to watch out for in 2010 and beyond, and I for one am certainly tipping him. It looks like the French are on to a good thing already!
