The Pictish Trail (Johnny Lynch) is currently on tour in Europe with former Arab Strap Malcolm Middleton. Tonight the Pictish Trail are in Koln Germany and Vic highlights that gig along with their other shows in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway as his pick of all the Scottish gigs abroad this week.

The Pictish Trail

Johnny Lynch aka the Pictish Trail is one of the head honchos of the East Neuk of Fife’s Fence Collective. Alongside King Creosote, he runs Fence Records and organises the annual Homegame and Halloween festivals in Anstruther and Cellardyke. Who would’ve thought the East Neuk would become a rock metropolis?!!

Anyway, with influences from fellow Fifers The Beta Band as well as bits of Hot Chip and Belle & Sebastian in the mix, Pictish Trail makes sweet, melodic, folk-pop songs with initimate, funny and often moving lyrics.

He sometimes plays with a full band, that includes Fence Collective friends such as Onthefly, King Creosote and James Yorkston, but also performs solo with drum machine, acoustic guitar and some keys.

Either way, he’s brilliant onstage armed with a pure and emotional vocal presence. Get along to see him – you will not be disappointed, and may even discover your favourite new songwriter!
